What if…

What if…

What if we knew that the relationship that mattered most is the one we have with ourselves since it colors / filters / twists / breaks all of our other relationships. (Hint, all other relationships are experienced through the lens of how we relate to ourselves. When we truly love, value, respect and accept ourselves, it affords us the opportunity to accept others, to relinquish control and judgement and basically love who they are.)

What if we remembered to be thankful for all that we have and all that we are? Thanksgiving and happiness go together.

What if we remembered that when someone else disapproves of us, indicating we are not enough, that it is not our job, or even possible to be someone else’s source?

What if we knew that expecting someone to be someone or somewhere they are not is sheer ignorance and will bring us pain and struggle every time?

What if we knew that whenever we fight reality, we end up in pain?

What if we knew that whether someone else loves us or not that we get to love them?

What if we knew that we are truly a gift to this thing called life?

Yes, yes, we all experience conflict. As near as I can tell we are invited to grow through the experience of conflict. Some of my greatest growth has been through times of pain and struggle. In the end, no one else can walk in our shoes. Yes, at times and in moments we may have company by our side, but ultimately our journey is our journey.

The Dalai Lama was asked once about his definition of happiness. He simply offered that to him happiness is being satisfied. This aligns with the Latin word “Satis” which means enough. I love the invitation to feel like I am enough, in any given moment, no matter what is currently rocking my world.

Remember that you are not the stories that you tell yourself about who you are. You are not your own dissatisfaction with your life. You are a gift from the universe to the universe. Share yourself openly. May you find happiness in more, and more, and more moments of your life.
